Cars Abilities are Abilities that are shared by all Cars characters, as well as drivable Ground Vehicles. These include 180°, Drifting, Drive, Jump, Reverse, Steer, Tricks, and Turbo Boost.

180°[]

A 180° is how Cars characters and Ground Vehicles immediately reverse the direction they are facing without making a turn. To perform a 180°, tap (RB, the Right Bumper) on the controller. This is sometimes useful (if not necessary) to avoid driving off the edge of a track - or the map itself.

Drifting[]

Drifting is how Cars characters and Ground Vehicles build stacks of "Turbo". To Drift, pull the (left trigger) and move (LS, the Left Stick) on the controller left or right while moving forward. The Turbo meter shown at the bottom of the screen will display how much "Turbo" has been accumulated. The meter is graduated with small and long marks, with two long marks (and the last long mark) indicating stacks of "Turbo". When a stack of "Turbo" has been filled, a flash will appear as a visual cue to the player.

See also "Turbo Boost" (below).

Drive[]

Drive is how Cars characters and Ground Vehicles move forward, and is performed by pulling on the (right trigger) of the controller. The amount of pressure (how far back) it is pulled determines the character's speed. Pull slightly to Drive slowly, pull back completely to Drive at top speed.

Jump[]

Car Jump 1

A Jump is performed by tapping the (jump button) on the controller. Unlike non-vehicle characters, Cars characters and Ground Vehicles cannot double jump.

Reverse[]

Reverse is how Cars characters and Ground Vehicles move backwards, and is performed by pulling on the (left trigger) of the controller.

Steer[]

To Steer a Cars character or Ground Vehicles, move (LS, the Left Stick) on the controller left or right while moving forward or backward.

Tricks[]

Car Tricks

Tricks are performed with Cars characters and Ground Vehicles by jumping while moving, and then moving (RS, the Right Stick) on the controller forward (to perform a forward flip), backward (to perform a back flip), or left or right (to perform a roll).

Turbo Boost[]

Turbo Boost 1

A Turbo Boost is performed with Cars characters and Ground Vehicles by first building stacks of "Turbo" (see "Drifting" above). When at least one stack of "Turbo" has been accumulated, to perform a Turbo Boost, flick (RS, the Right Stick) forward while moving forward. This will provide a sudden burst of high speed and consume one stack of "Turbo". Note that it is not possible to build stacks of "Turbo" in reverse.
