Darth Maul is a character from the Lucasfilm Ltd. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He may be used in:

He was confirmed to be playable on Toy Box TV,[1] but had already been revealed on the leaked box art images for 3.0. He was released on November 2, 2015 in the US and November 6th in UK.[2]

He also appears as a boss in the Twilight of the Republic Play Set,[3] and can be spawned by the Boss Fight Spawner Creativi-Toy.

Abilities[]

Maul fights with his trademark double-bladed lightsaber, and also has a lot of martial arts style melee moves. He is Force sensitive, and as such possesses all basic Force-related abilities, along with some others unlocked via his Skill Tree. These include a counterattack which both blocks and repels an attacking enemy, a leaping attack called Air of Superiority, a lightsaber throw move called Power of the Force, an attack which causes Maul to charge an enemy and toss them away with his lightsaber (called Darth Dash Attack), and the ability to repel incoming blaster shots. He also has a Super Jump, a Block Breaker, and an Air Assault. His Force Ability is Force Concussion, which causes Maul to absorb a black substance and then perform a powerful ground pound attack which both knocks back an temporarily stuns nearby enemies.

Development[]

The Disney Interactive artists' drawings of Maul at first depicted a much bigger, more intimidating looking character than the final design ended up being. (Some drawings even showed him shirtless.) When the artists showed their initial designs to LucasFilm, they asked them to rein the character in, because Ray Park, the actor who depicted Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, was not a very big man.[4]

According to Jeff Bunker, former Avalanche Software VP of Art Development, designing Maul in 2D format was easy; the difficult part was translating that into a figure. He said that Maul was probably the hardest character to turn into a figure. There are a number of pieces that come together to make Maul's figure; he has many layers in his robes, and each of the horns on his head is an individual piece.[4]

Quotes[]

For more quotes from this character, see Darth Maul/Quotes.
  • Who dares summon me, Darth Maul!
  • I cannot believe that my master left me for dead!
  • I must be patient.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Star Wars villain with a Force Push ability.
    • He is also the only villain that does not have a Light FX variant (due to technological restrictions involving his double-bladed lightsaber.)
