Disney's Sleeping Beauty

Maleficent is the main antagonist of the original Sleeping Beauty. She first appears at Princess Aurora's christening, distressed at not being invited. She then enacts a curse on the newborn princess that she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die on her sixteenth birthday just before vanishing into green flames. One of the fairies changes the curse so that if Aurora should prick her finger, she will fall into an eternal slumber, only to be awoken by true love's kiss. When the little princess is taken into hiding, Maleficent's goons search the kingdom for 16 years, foolishly only looking for a baby. Maleficent sends her raven, Diablo, as her last hope to search for Aurora. The raven finds the cottage where Aurora and the three fairies taking care of her and reports back to Maleficent. Later, after Aurora and the fairies leave to return to the castle, a prince named Philip comes looking for Aurora, whom he had met earlier that day. He is surprised to find himself captured by Maleficent, who in turn is also surprised to find him. She then lures Aurora into a trance to make the curse come true and in turn, falls into a deep slumber. Maleficent takes Philip to her fortress and taunts him in her dungeon before retiring to her chambers to rest. With the help of the three good fairies, Philip escapes to rescue the sleeping Aurora. Maleficent awakes as Diablo is turned to stone and tries everything in her power to stop the daring prince. When her magic fails, she transforms into a terrible fire-breathing dragon in her last effort to stop Philip. But with the fairies are at the prince's aide, they enchant his sword to plunge straight into the dragon's heart, tumbling and collapsing over the side of a cliff as it perishes. The last thing that remains of Maleficent are her robes pinned by a sword into the ground.

Disney's Maleficent

In the 2014 film starring Angelina Jolie, a different approach is taken to the Sleeping Beauty tale. Maleficent is regarded as the true hero of the story instead of the villain. Maleficent's roots are explored further as she is the link between the human kingdom and the fairy kingdom.

Abilities

Maleficent is one the most powerful characters of Disney Infinity 2.0. She can cast a wide variety of spells such as shooting magic orbs, summoning a wave of thorn branches and powerful blasts for taking out surrounding enemies. Her Special Move, Diaval's Dive allows her to summon a flock of crows to rain down on many enemies. Maleficent is also capable of Flight with her feathered wings.

Trivia

  • Maleficent's design is based on Disney's 2014 Live-Action film, Maleficent.
  • Maleficent was the first fairy and one of three Disney Original figures to fly introduced into the game. The other two are Baymax and Tinker Bell.
  • Maleficent is the first Toy Box Only figure that originates from a Live-Action Film.
  • She is the first playable character from Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition to have a costume in the first game (even though it is based on her Sleeping Beauty design). The second being Tinker Bell, the third being Jasmine, the fourth being Sam Flynn.
  • She is the only Toy-Box exclusive villain in Disney Infinity history.
  • Although the figure's design is based on Angelina Jolie, she doesn't voice her in the game due to prior obligations; however, she did personally approve the figure's design, and reportedly was the first celebrity to request a copy of the original Disney Infinity title.[2]
  • Though it has been said that Maleficent is voiced by Susanne Blakeslee, she is actually voiced by Rajia Baroudi.
    • Susanne Blakeslee is actually the voice of The Witch.
    • Rajia Baroudi also portrayed the White Alien Ranger Delphine in "Mighty Morpin' Alien Rangers" and "Power Rangers Zeo".
  • Her model number is 1000121.
  • Some people who bought her figure at Toys R Us in late 2014 were angry due to Maleficent in their game being a glitched out version of Donald Duck that broke their game. This was fixed in early 2015.
    • Most Maleficents bought at Toys R Us had paint spilled all over the figure, so it's possible that the paint caused her to be a glitched out Donald Duck.
